Pheidole megacephala is a small, African-native species of big-headed ant that has successfully spread itself to many tropical and subtropical regions of the world by the help of humans. Their colonies may consist of several dozens of egg-laying queens, and they are able to reproduce by budding.

- Pheidole megacephala can nest in wood (as long as its moist and easy to dig in). An interesting trait is that Pheidole megacephala can make a carton-like substance out of the same wood. It is very similar to the carton-like material that Formosan subterranean termites also make out of wood.
