This is a checklist I believe would be helpful for new people getting into ant keeping. This list would be used to prepare before going on your first anting trip to ensure you will have the necessities to be successful.
- Extra batteries
- Aspirator (optional)
I wish I knew this before I went on my first trip, and honestly didnt think about it. While founding chambers are best created with test tubes, while capturing the dealates, it's a better idea to use small containers such as the ones listed below. Why? Cause you could be climbing and running around all over rough, uneven terrain and having glass in your pockets/backpack isnt a good idea because if it breaks, you may have to end your trip abruptly and head to a hospital for stitches which is never fun. Also, using full sized plastic test tubes is an option, but they are large and totally unnecessary.
Pocket sized containers that are good for capturing dealate queens.
"Pop" Top plastic vials:
- Medium 1.5ml (40mm x 10mm)
- Larger 2ml size (unknown dimensions assuming close to if not same as above)
- Largest 5ml size (Length: 63mm / outer diameter: 15mm)
